Lice Screening by Hair Fairies

1/10/2018

Picture
Hair Fairies conducted a school-wide lice check today, following their lice education presentation at this morning’s PTA meeting.

All students and teachers were checked.

Hair Fairies detected at least one child with nits from lice in 18 out of 25 classes checked.

Although this is hard news to hear, knowledge is power. As a community, we all need to work together to detect and eradicate lice at 217.

The DOE provides information about lice, and how to treat and prevent lice here http://schools.nyc.gov/offices/health/pediculosis/default.htm

What can I do if my child has lice or nits?
There are many services that will help you get rid of lice, or you can treat lice at home. Click here to view guidance from the NYC DOE or

Hair Fairies also has education materials on their website, including videos on how to detect and treat lice, available at:
https://www.hairfairies.com/lice-treatment-videos/

What can I do to check my child and/or prevent lice if someone in my child’s class has lice?
Even if your child was not found to have lice or nits during today’s screening, if your child is in a class where lice was detected, a preventative wet comb-out is helpful! Please see the guidance from the NYC DOE . There are also many online resources that can help you become more educated about lice and how to detect it, treat it, and take steps to prevent it.
