We want to thank all the parents that came out these past 2 weeks for the parent meetings. We appreciate all the feedback we received and look forward to continue building and cultivating a program that is beneficial to all students of the Beacon program. Some points that were addressed include:
As of this week we are in classrooms. During our classroom time participants are able to work on homework during the first period (45 mins). For younger students this time will also include a variety of other activities since homework time is shortened for them. The recreation/arts/physical activity that follows depends on the schedule for that day.
Each week we have 2 lessons for Project Based Learning (PBL), which is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working to investigate and respond to an engaging intricate activity. These 2 lesson are centered around the theme of this school year which is World Olympics, offering lessons about multiculturalism that prepare children to thrive in today’s diverse society and to practice respect towards people of all different backgrounds, while strengthening academic skills.
Weeknights and Weekends:
We continue to open from 6:30-7:30pm for tutoring each day, as well as offering open gym hours for teens from 6:30-7:30pm, and Adults from 7:30-9:30pm. Our Saturday program is up and running alsofrom 9am-4pm for grades K-8 and open gym for teens from 4-5pm.
During the parent meetings it was brought to our attention that there has been misinformation and unofficial communications being shared. We’d like to remind Beacon families that all official announcements regarding programing, dismissal times, half days, events, etc. will be coming directly from Beacon and will also be shared on the PTA website on our behalf.
