#TeacherTuesday is a new feature of the 217 PTA.
It will highlight the talented and dedicated educators at PS/IS 217.
Ms. Shuster teaches the Gifted and Talented 1/2 Bridge class.
Q1: What's your favorite thing about PS / IS 217?
Ms. Shuster: My favorite thing about PS/IS 217 is the people that I work with everyday. The staff is incredible. The dedication and hard work that each staff member possesses is what makes this school such a great and successful learning environment. My students are the sunshine to my everyday. I thoroughly enjoy spending every weekday with them and getting the opportunity to watch them blossom throughout the course of the school year. Lastly, my ½ Bridge and 2nd Grade Teammates are a huge part of what I love so much about PS/IS 217. We work so well together and we also truly are friends inside and out of school.
Q2: What was your favorite subject when you were in elementary / middle school (depending on teacher grade level)?
While I was in school, my favorite subject was math. To me, math was the area that I was the strongest in and the subject that gave me the most confidence. I know that math can be challenging for many and so I try to exude this love of the subject upon my own students. My class knows that math is always taught after lunch and that it is my favorite time of the day!
Q3: How do you get to work each day?
I live in Manhattan and so I take the Tram to work everyday. Once I travel over the East River, I either take the Red Bus, or walk.
Q4: What did you do on your summer vacation?
This past summer I did many things to occupy my time. I spent many evenings tutoring students. During my day, I took two online classes through the DOE as I am always trying to better myself and be the best teacher that I can be for my students. In August I went away for a week to St. Thomas with my two best friends. On most weekends I spent time with my family, especially my delicious niece, Olivia who is 15 months old!
Q5: What is your favorite event at PS/IS 217?
My favorite event at PS/IS 217 is Spirit Week! This past year was such a fun experience. I loved seeing my students come in everyday dressed to the theme. I enjoyed taking pictures of the students in an attempt to capture these experiences and share them with the parents in my class. I also loved dressing up with my teammates, especially for Halloween! We could not wait to debut our superhero theme costumes!
