Good news, the DOE has awarded our school a $5,000 Arts Parent Engagement Grant. The grant is designed for families to see and make art with our longtime art partner, Studio in the School!
Two Studio Resident Artists will lead a series of five family art making Saturdays. To inspire and deepen out understanding of art making we will be visiting some of our local arts organizations including the Roosevelt Island Visual Arts Alliance (RIVAA Gallery), Four Freedoms Park, The Roosevelt Island Community Garden and then returning to school for art making. The final session will be a guided tour of Studio's Annual Student Exhibition featuring the work of our students.
Our first art making day is scheduled for Saturday, February 27th, from 10.00 am -12.00 pm. We will meet at the RIVAA Gallery at 527 Main Street at 10.00am, view the annual Black History Month Exhibition and walk back to school for art making until noon in the school cafeteria.
Please see the tentative calendar below for the balance of the program. Space is limited and requires preregistration. The registration form for the first two sessions has gone home in the backpack and is available below. Please complete and return to your classroom teacher. Your registration will be confirmed by email. It is our goal to give every family an opportunity to participate.
