The Hawks 217 Wrestling team got off to a great start for the year on Friday's home meet. Thanks Coach Xavier for mentoring our mighty Hawks! Come cheer for the 217 Hawks' Wrestling team at their first match of the year! When: Friday, October 19th, 2018 Where: PS/IS 217 Gym Time: 4:00PM *Match nights typically end around 7:30pm* Go Hawks!   This past Friday, we had the first Friday Match Night of our winter season. We had our BEST competition turn out! A big thank you to everyone who came out. Congratulations to Matia, Gemma, Mao, Malcom, Laila, Isaias, Timur, Frida, Persya, Jaime, and Mathew. They each stepped up and earned some very valuable match experience. Looking ahead, the 217 Hawks have another competition this Saturday! This tournament will be in West Orange, New Jersey at West Orange High School and is hosted by BEAT-THE-STREETS who are providing transportation and the entry fee for the tournament. Based on age and experience, the following student-athletes will represent PS/IS 217:
Tournament: (Wrestlers will be leaving from: 35th and 8th avenue in Manhattan at 9:35am) When: Saturday, February 3, 2018 Where: (West Orange High School) 51 CONFORTI AVE WEST ORANGE,NJ 07052 What to bring: Practice Gear (Shoes, Shorts, shirts) Food  The winter wrestling season begins this week with the first practice on Wednesday, January 10th.
Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45-4pm. Students from grades3-8 are welcome to participate if you are interested, please see Coach Luce for a permission slip. (If you wrestled in the Fall Season then you are ready to go!) Coach Xavier is looking forward to seeing everyone on the mats tomorrow! Congratulations to our Hawks Wrestling Team for a very successful end to their season! Lan won first place for Novice division, Abdelbast won 3rd place in Juniors division, and Laila and Persya both came 4th in their very first tournament, winning Wrestlers Mark awards. Well done Hawks, and thank you to Coach Xavier and Coach Luce for all your support! Our wrestling season is coming to an end. There are only 2 more opportunities to wrestle in a match.

MATCH NIGHT INFORMATION When: December 1st, meet at Roosevelt Island F Train Station at 3:50pm or meet there Where: 345 Chambers st, New York, NY 10282 (Stuyvesant High School) Schedule: 4:30pm – 5:00pm: Teams Arrive 5:00pm – 5:300pm: Welcome, School Intro 5:30pm – 5:45pm: Warm-Up 5:45pm – 6:30pm: A vs. B, C vs. D 6:30pm – 7:15pm: A vs. D, B vs. C 7:15pm – 8:00pm: A vs. C, B vs. D Students who want to compete must be over 65lbs and in 4th grade. Grades 5-8: Can wrestle with permission slip, no parent needed Grade 4: Can wrestle IF over 65lbs, parent has to sign AND attend meet Grades 3: Can come to watch with a parent Everyone who can compete, should compete. We must improve attendance. Go Hawks!
Congratulations to the PS/IS 217 Wrestling team for taking second place at their recent competition! In addition to this fantastic result, Abdel and Lan both managed to take home individual championships after winning their matches 3-0! Awesome job to our mighty Hawks Wrestling Team!!
