Beacon After-school Stard Date - Sept 12th:
The first day of Beacon will be next Wednesday, Sept 12th, starting at 2:45PM. Students will be picked up by our group leaders from their teachers. ****IMPORTANT: All families MUST put Beacon on the students’ blue card in order to for teachers to allow group leaders to pick them up. Attending parent orientation is required to confirm your child's after-school spot. Please email beacon217@childcenterny.org with any questions. The registration process for the Beacon Afterschool program will begin on August 6, 2018. The link below will direct you to the Child Center of NY (CCNY) INTEREST form via Survey Monkey.
Registration will take place in the P.S./I.S 217 cafeteria. Please bring completed application and medical forms with you (attached below). Registration will be open at the following times:
Official acceptance notices will go out the following week (August 13th). In order for your child(ren) to be fully enrolled, CCNY must have a completed application and a medical form. In order for your child(ren) to maintain a spot in the Beacon program, a Parent/Guardian must attend our mandatory parent orientation on August 20 OR August 21 from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Summer Camp will run from 8:00am-5:30pm. Evening Programming for high school students and adults will run from 5:30pm to 8.00 or 10.00pm depending on the date. Total summer camp enrollment will be 138 children.
Campers MUST attend 4 FULL days a week. If the camper misses more than 3 days of summer camp in total, the camper will be dis-enrolled from the summer camp to make room for another camper. Enrollment will begin Saturday April 28, 2018 at 1:30PM-4:30PM. Applications must be complete to be accepted.
Applications are available in the Beacon office, Monday through Friday from 12:30pm-9:30pm, and on Saturday in the Beacon office from 9:30pm-4:30pm. Please note, when applying for the Summer Camp, please have the schedule that your camper will attend (days of attendance and times) available upon registration. Please keep in my mind that the camper must attend 4 days a week. If you anticipate traveling, please note that you will be put on the waiting list to accommodate space for other campers. There is no Beacon programming on Saturday March 31st and April 7th.
There will be no evening or Saturday programming for the duration of Spring Break, but will resume once Spring Break is over. Information about Spring Break Camp available HERE. The Roosevelt Island Center for Community Development, the Child Center of NY (The Beacon at 217), and RBI are joining forces to put on the spring season of Little League.
There is no cost to participate. The league is FREE Important Dates

Needed Equipment Each child is responsible for bringing a baseball glove (**right handed children wear a left handed glove. Left handed children wear a right handed glove). Volunteers In addition, please know we are always looking for parent coordinators, coaches, and assistant coaches. No experience needed, we can train you and have great people and processes in place to help along the way. Sign up HERE. Registration closes March 31st. Please let friends and family know so we can get as many students registered as possible. Please register HERE. Beacon will be open for Spring Break from Friday March 30 - April 6 from 9AM-5PM. On Monday April 2nd there is a possibility that BEACON WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING provided by The Child Center of NY and our funders DYCD. We will notify families as soon as possible.
Also, if your child will not be able to attend the 6 days of Spring Break, please inform us which days they will attend as we are finalizing staffing needs and capacity requirements. * We will have three dismissal times, 2:45, 3:45 and 4:30. The Spring Break camp will be more recreational based as the camps have been before. * We will offer a breakfast and lunch but still recommend that you pack a snack as it is a longer day. * We have a capacity for 50 students. If you would like a spot please RSVP to Beacon217@childcenterny.org with SPRING BREAK CAMP in the subject line by WEDNESDAY MARCH 21. You will then receive a confirmation email.
