Last years test results for Grades 3-8 have been released.
Notices with instructions on setting up your mystudent.nyc account were sent home this week - please contact Ms Lauraine if you need further help! Learning to be organized is a process - a skill that needs to be taught, practiced, and honed. Teachers will be reinforcing these skills with their students throughout the year and request that all students have a planner ready to use by October 1st.
Families can purchase the 217 school agenda by returning the form below with $7 cash (correct amounts only) or a check payable to PS/IS 217 PTA. Note: If you ordered the school supply kit last June, your child has already received a 217 agenda and bag tag as part of their kit. On Wednesday Morning, the 4th grade classes demonstrated their small group skits that they had planned and written themselves, along with some really polished class musical performances. It was a real pleasure to see the students participating so enthusiastically in this terrific residency sponsored by the PTA - well done 4th Grade!! Parents, relatives, and family friends were thoroughly entertained tonight by the music performances from Grades 2-8! Students really shone in their performances - the culmination of a years hard work in music classes. Grade 2 students gave their best choral performance, Grade 3 harmonized on the recorder, and Grades 4-8 gave some terrific band performances. Congratulations to our students on a job well done, and a big thank you to Mr Ladalia and our teachers for putting on such a tremendous show! If you would like to share your photos, please email them to psis217info@gmail.com. Recently, classes 401, 402, 405 and 501 participated in a workshop presented by the New York City Children's Theater called "Fair and Square".
Fair and Square is all about conflict among 5th grade friends and the appropriate ways to handle these types of conflicts. After losing the school spelling bee to Roberta another student, McKayla. accuses her of cheating. When Roberta learns that she might lose her coveted award she takes matters into her own hands, placing the two of them in serious trouble. Throughout the interactive drama and workshop, students explored themes of conflict management, actions, and consequences as well as peer pressure. The students were highly involved and added wonderful insight and their own resolutions for the actors. Grades 3-8 has started Circuit Training this week! Students will participate in circuit training for the next 6 weeks.
Kindergarten - Grade 2 have begun working with parachutes. This is a 6 week physical education unit.
Parents are invited to accompany their children and learn more about what our students are doing in Technology classes!
Tuesday 19th: 7:45am in Room 404. For this year's Hour of Code, 3rd and 4th graders took on the challenge of assisting kindergarten classes work through several coding puzzles or building makey-makey kits. We love seeing our students not only learning more about the basics of computer science and coding, but also having the chance to practise emerging leadership skills! Enjoy some photos of our classes taking part in their Hour of Code! Parents and students are invited to join the 4th Grade Math Team for a Math Workshop on Division Strategies at 7.45am!
