PS/IS 217 students ended Unity Day 2018 with a whole-school photo! National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. Unity Day is a time for everyone to come together – in schools, at work, in communities, and online – and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center.
The campaign, held during the month of October, unites communities around the world to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. We encourage you to wear orange at school, at work, or wherever you are on Unity Day - Wednesday, October 24th. Unity Day is a time for everyone to come together – in schools, at work, in communities, and online – and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We are looking for parents to help us with book fair set-up, man the cash registers, sort and stock books, and of course helping students find books within their budgets at the Book Fair!
(PreK-2nd grade students are always excited to have a parent with them at school - we encourage you to join them rather than volunteering during their class visit!) A HUGE THANK YOU to the dozens and dozens of Teachers, Staff, and Parents who volunteered their time and talents!! Over the past few weeks and today, more than 120 parents and staff have been involved in planning, preparation, designing and constructing the amazing backdrops and games, baking, popping, setting up, decorating, manning all the different games, activity and food tables at the event, and then helping pack it all away again! It was an amazing team effort! WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!! We'd also like want to thank the many local Roosevelt Island businesses who volunteered, donated goods, and sponsored activities to support this event! Thank you Elizabeth Bian, Alexandre Tolipan, and the many other parents who shared their photos with us! Today's weather is cool, but clearing! Grab your sweaters - the MONSTER BASH is TODAY!
Pre-purchased tickets can be picked up this morning ouside school, or from 2:30 at the school gate this afternoon! The Gate opens at 3PM. There have been questions about costumes - no costumes necessary today - save your costumes for October 31st! Due to Monster Bash setup, K-3 classes will be dismissed across the street at the Capobianco Field. See below for a map that will show you where the classes will be standing for dismissal.

School Leadership Teams (SLTs) are vehicles for developing school-based educational policies, and ensuring that resources are aligned to implement those policies. SLTs assist in the evaluation and assessment of a school’s educational programs and their effects on student achievement. SLTs play a significant role in creating a structure for school-based decision making, and shaping the path to a collaborative school culture. New York State Education Law Section 2590-h requires every New York City Public School to have a School Leadership Team. In addition, Chancellor’s Regulation A-655 (CR A-655) establishes guidelines to ensure the formation of effective SLTs in every New York City public school.
