This month's book, The Way I Act, is being coupled with the skill of responsibility in PBIS. The book explores a variety of attitudes and traits such as compassion, responsibility and bravery. Children will recognize and identify scenarios such as meeting new kids, playing on the playground and finishing a puzzle. Each scene illustrates positive ways to respond and encourages the kids to do the same!
Music Together + 25 five year olds = JOY
The PTA funded enrichment Music Together, lead by Owen Johnston, has a goal of Basic Music Competency while supporting language, vocabulary and literacy learning, mathematics, fine and gross motor skills, as well as social and emotional development.
Our prekindergarten and kindergarten students sure do have a lot of fun while they're working so hard!
Thank you to all of the P.S/I.S 217 families who came to the Fall Festival on Friday. Over 300 children had a great time and we raised close to $6,000 for our school!
Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped before, during and after the event, and a big thanks to the hard-working middle school students who lent a hand. We couldn’t have done it without you! We also could not have had this event without generous donations from parents and our local businesses:
The Roosevelt Island Fire Department, who cooked and served hot food
Wengerd Farm for donating all of the pumpkins
Roosevelt Island Starbucks
Bread and Butter Market
Dawn Jones Facepainting
Sarnai Baked Goods
Andrea Siegal for painting the photo cutout
Aphrothiti Hanrohan for putting together the lollipop pull, bean bag toss and mystery box games
* AND the P.S./I.S. 217 families for donating candy, favors and baked goods!
Special thanks to our INCREDIBLE Halloween Event chair, Tracey DeBenedictis, and the members of the festival planning committee: Erin Olavesen, Nathalie Chetrit, Taryn Merkl, Corinna Kell, Anna Ivanova and Olga Shchuchinov.
