All parents are eligible to run for a PTA position unless they are employees of the school. You are welcome to co-nominate with a partner!  Email: 217ptaelections@gmail.com to nominate yourself or  someone else (who will be contacted to cofirm they agree to participate!)

Deadline for Nominations: May 1st. Nominations will be announced at the May 19th PTA General Membership Meeting.

Election: To be held during the May 19th, 8:35am PTA General Membership Meeting in the Cafeteria.

Beacon Update

There is no Beacon programming on Saturday March 31st and April 7th.

There will be no evening or Saturday programming for the duration of Spring Break, but will resume once Spring Break is over.

Beacon Update:  Little League

The Roosevelt Island Center for Community Development, the Child Center of NY (The Beacon at 217), and RBI are joining forces to put on the spring season of Little League.

There is no cost to participate. The league is FREE

Important Dates
  • March 27th Coaches meeting
  • April 10th Tball evaluations (Pony field at 5:30-6:30PM)
  • April 11th Minors and Majors evaluations (Pony field at 5:30-7PM)
  • April 12th- Teams and coaches will be assigned to each student
  • Important: Saturday, April 14th opening day parade and opening games (parade begins at 9AM from Blackwell park on Main Street)

Games and Practices
  • Typically Tball (5-6) will have Saturday games between 8:30-9:45AM
  • Minors (7-9) will play Saturday games from (10AM-12:45PM)
  • Majors (10-13) will play Saturday games from (1-4PM)
  • Minors and majors have weeknight practices (the practice days depend on their coaches)

Needed Equipment
Each child is responsible for bringing a baseball glove (**right handed children wear a left handed glove. Left handed children wear a right handed glove).

Volunteers
In addition, please know we are always looking for parent coordinators, coaches, and assistant coaches. No experience needed, we can train you and have great people and processes in place to help along the way. Sign up HERE.

Registration closes March 31st. Please let friends and family know so we can get as many students registered as possible.

Beacon Update:  Spring Break Camp

Beacon will be open for Spring Break from Friday March 30 - April 6 from 9AM-5PM.  On Monday April 2nd there is a possibility that BEACON WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING provided by The Child Center of NY and our funders DYCD.  We will notify families as soon as possible.
 
Also, if your child will not be able to attend the 6 days of Spring Break, please inform us which days they will attend as we are finalizing staffing needs and capacity requirements.

* We will have three dismissal times, 2:45, 3:45 and 4:30. The Spring Break camp will be more recreational based as the camps have been before.
 
* We will offer a breakfast and lunch but still recommend that you pack a snack as it is a longer day. 

* We have a capacity for 50 students.  

​If you would like a spot please RSVP to Beacon217@childcenterny.org with SPRING BREAK CAMP in the subject line by WEDNESDAY MARCH 21. You will then receive a confirmation email.

  • In the mornings the week before to package and distribute prepurchased tickets,
  • Help with decorating and set up before the event on Saturday morning/afternoon, 
  • Bring baked goods and single-serving foods for the food table at the event, 
  • Share an hour of your time to help man the various stations around the event.

As part of 217’s Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program, 217 is excited to announce February's PBIS award recipients!  The PBIS awards for February go to elementary students in each class who exemplified TOLERANCE.

​Each month, as the PBIS curriculum highlights different core values - and awards will be presented to students who best embody and exemplify these traits.
