To celebrate Earth Day this year the New York State Senate is sponsoring a poster celebration for children in grades K-6. The Theme is: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
If your child would like to participate, entries can be photographed and submitted electronically, in jpeg or pdf format, via www.serrano.nysenate.gov. Submissions must be uploaded to the website by April 17, 2019. Don’t forget to pack your kids lunches for tomorrow!!
Our cafeteria is being used for election voting throughout the day. Only students who opted-in to half day/Election Day lunches will be provide with a sandwich lunch. It's your chance to give feedback on our school! Only one form per family - it is quick and easy!

The PS/IS 217 annual PTA Auction Event will be held on May 18th, and we need you to ensure this event is a success! Your help is needed to solicit donations for our Auction! Some of the very best donations in the past have come from our school community. Every one of us has a network of friends, colleagues, activities our kids participate in, and businesses we frequent - all of who may be willing to donate to support our school - they just need to be asked! This week was Kindness week at PS/IS 217, and throughout the week, classes were centered around the theme of kindness with challenges, activities, learning, and discussion. Friday, February 15 is a Half Day with dismissal at 11:29am. Island Kids and Beacon will be opening early.
Please ensure that any dismissal changes are communicated in writing to your teacher and the main office! And classes, from PreK-8th, participated in 100th day celebrations and activities across the school! Happy 100th Day of School - its hard to believe we are over half-way through the year!!

Mr. Zappala and Mrs. Pervez from part of the staff Community Service team went with group of selected students from grades 4-8 to see some hearts warming and smiles all around! Grade 3 families: come in and learn all about the State tests, how teachers are helping your student prepare and what you can do to help at home.
Save the date! The staff community service team organized activities for students in grades K-8 to write Valentine’s Day cards for our Senior Center in Roosevelt Island.
Students from grades 4-8 will deliver these cards to our local seniors to make them feel loved! Great News! The 100th Day of School is Thurs, Feb 14!
Students will be celebrating the 100th Day of School by visiting other classrooms and working in grade teams in math, social studies, and science activities. Students are invited to dress up as students from 100 years ago or 100 years into the future. A 100 years ago:
